Refurbished Projectors Represent Excellent Value

Why pay full price when a damaged box could mean big savings?

'Refurbished' is not the code word for 'LEMON!!' Often, when an item is refurbished, it could mean that it was simply delivered to the retailer in a box that became damaged, then had to be returned to the manufacturer for repacking. It may not even have been used at all!

Refurbished projectors can be 'as new' when sold to customers, and although it's not always the case, even one that has been used and returned for whatever reason should still be subject to warranty and will have been checked thoroughly for any inadequacies. You can buy with confidence, knowing that the unit is safe and fully functioning.

What constitutes "refurbished"?

  • It might surprise you to learn how some products are classified as refurbished.
  • Cosmetic damage
  • Customer return
  • Damaged packaging
  • Manufacturing defect
  • Overstock items
  • Demonstration units
  • Manufacturers and retailers would much sooner have these items out of storage and sold to consumers, so they're happy to pass on savings.

Why buy refurbished projectors?
In a word … price! It's natural to expect that they'd be cheaper than their brand new, virginal counterparts. Sometimes the savings may be minimal but if you get lucky, you can save a good deal, perhaps even fifty per cent off regular retail prices. Or you could pay just what you had expected to and receive more features, such as wireless connectivity or higher screen resolution.

If you're not sure about what to look for when buying refurbished projectors, ask the experts. Whether you're seeking home entertainment or professional presentation projectors, your retailer should be well informed and know his products enough to practically give you an education on them.

When considering buying refurbished projectors, one disadvantage is that you may be limited to which brand you can buy. Nonetheless, you may be able to score a brand that is commonly more highly priced, for a lower cost because it was unable to be sold as brand new. This could definitely work in your favor!

You can even buy refurbished projectors online. There are special websites devoted to listing used and refurbished products, or others who specialize say, in home audiovisual equipment but also feature a refurbished category. If, however, you would prefer to see the item up close and personal, you should go down to the store and ask what's available. There, you'll also see a full range of accessories and other supplies, and you'll be able to find out what services are on offer should anything go wrong with your purchase.

Questions you should ask when considering refurbished projectors

  1. Is a warranty offered? Beware of items sold without warranty as it often means that you can expect problems, and no support.
  2. Does the retailer have licensing rights to sell new products made by the same manufacturer? This is important because it means they have a relationship with the manufacturer to back them up in the event of repairs or warranty claims.
  3. Does the retailer offer a returns/exchange policy? As with a new product, you may decide that what you've purchased is not specifically what you were hoping. Check how long you have to return the item for a refund or exchange.
  4. Is it possible to purchase an extended warranty? This provides you with a longer term of coverage.

So while you're browsing in the audiovisual section of the home entertainment store, watching Oprah on two dozen digital TV screens at once, glance over her shoulder because in the background could be lurking a real bargain that may have nothing wrong with it!
